Douglas Pereira dos Santos (6 August 1990), the latest signing for the 2014/15 season, is here to add depth to the right hand side of the Barça midfield. The Brazilian started out as a professional at Goiás before moving on to Sao Paulo and now crossing the Atlantic for the first time to join Barça. This is your chance to learn a little more about the player:

1) 24 years old. Douglas was born in Monte Alegre de Goiás on 6 August 1990. He is extremely experienced for his age after playing for two different clubs in the Brazilian Serie A, Goiás and Sao Paulo, and playing in the Copa Sudamericana for the latter and the U20 World Cup in Egypt for his country.

2) 170 appearances for Goiás and Sao Paulo. He started out at Goiás in the 2007/08 season. After four seasons with his hometown club he signed for Sao Paulo in 2011, and spent three seasons there before coming to Europe. He’s played a total of 170 competitive matches at club level.

3) Third club. After spending his entire career in Brazil with Goiás and Sao Paulo, FC Barcelona is his third club and his first in Europe.

4)Ten goals. Douglas is not afraid of moving up to support the attack, and has scored ten goals as a pro, five for Goiás and five for Sao Paulo.

5) Four titles. Douglas has won four major honours. The first was his state championship, the Campeonato Goiano in 2009, which he followed with the Copa Sudamericana as a Sao Paulo player in 2012. For Brazil, he won the South American U20 Championship and came second at the Egypt 2009 U20 World Cup.

6) Barça’s sixth Brazilian full-back in ten years. Douglas follows in the footsteps of several compatriots. Other Brazilian full-backs of the last decade have been Belletti, the hero of Paris, Sylvinho, who was at FCB for five years, and Maxwell, who was signed from Inter Milan. And of course both Adriano and Dani Alves are still at the club today.

7) Fifth Brazilian. That means there are now no fewer than five Brazilian’s in the Barça first team, the aforesaid Adriano and Dani Alves, plus Neymar and Rafinha.

8) Fifth FC Barcelona player with a Sao Paulo past. Da Silva, Belletti, Edmílson and Rivaldo all wore the jerseys of both clubs at some stage in their careers.

9) Seventh signing of the year. Douglas is by no means the only new face in the FCB squad this season. He joins six other newcomers: Ter Stegen, Claudio Bravo, Mathieu, Vermaelen, Rakitic and Luis Suárez, in addition to the returned Rafinha and the promotion of Masip from the reserves.

10) Five seasons. Douglas has signed a five-year contract with FC Barcelona, i.e. until 2019.
